Every recovery is different, but the same three mistakes show up over and over after knee replacement.
Mistake #1: Trying to win recovery in one day
People have a good day and decide to “catch up” with extra exercises, extra walking, extra everything. Then the knee gets angry — more swelling, more pain, more stiffness. Recovery is won through consistency, not heroics.
Mistake #2: Comparing yourself to strangers online
“I should be at 120° by now.” “They were off their walker sooner.” You’re comparing yourself to someone with a completely different body, surgery, health history, support system, and starting point. Recovery is not a race — focus on your progress, not someone else’s timeline.
Mistake #3: Ignoring swelling
This one is huge. Many people become obsessed with bending the knee while overlooking that it’s swollen. A swollen knee often doesn’t move well. Managing swelling, movement, walking, and recovery habits all go hand in hand.
The real key isn’t more information — it’s the right information at the right time. Do the basics well and the rest tends to follow.
